Locating Bench Marks Preserving Heritage. Come along to the Spring Rice Monument and discover the story behind the Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSI) bench marks, which first appeared on our landscape nearly 200 years ago and were used right up until the 1990s. These small marks, carved into walls and buildings, helped surveyors measure heights all across the country.
Experts from Tailte Éireann will be there to show you exactly how these bench marks were used — with a live demonstration of traditional surveying techniques.
📱 You’ll also get the chance to try out a new app that helps locate and record bench marks throughout County Limerick.
👨👩👧👦 Families are very welcome!
Don’t miss this unique event celebrating our heritage and the tools that helped map Ireland.
