Dr. Alan Cusack was invited to deliver an address at a landmark international conference, entitled ‘Police Custody in Ireland’ which took place at the Law Society in Dublin from 29-30 September 2022.

The conference was dedicated to exploring police custody practices and Dr. Cusack delivered a paper entitled ‘Policing Vulnerability: Understanding the Pre-Trial Position of Suspects with Intellectual Disabilities in Ireland’.

Other keynote speakers at the event included Professor Juan Mendez (former UN Special Rapporteur on Torture); Pauline Shields (Deputy Chief Inspector of the Garda Inspectorate); Commissioner Hugh Hume (Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission) and Professor Gautam Gulati (¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ).

Dr. Alan Cusack and Professor Gautam Gulati have co-authored a chapter, entitled ‘People with Intellectual Disabilities as Accused Persons in the Irish Policing Interface’ for an edited collection which has arisen from the conference proceedings.
