Catherine Jeanneau, Language Learning Hub coordinator, was selected to represent the e-lang citizen project, a European Centre for Modern Languages of the Council of Europe initiative, at the first forum on digital citizenship education (DCE) (“Act now!”), which was organised on May 27 and 28, 2025, by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg as part of the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025. Catherine Jeanneau joined more than 200 participants from over 30 different countries. The objectives of the forum were to “promote multi-stakeholder collaboration [...], present DCE initiatives and knowledge at the pan-European and international levels, and validate thematic guidelines and develop specific actions for the roadmap for the next five years.” The forum featured plenary sessions, a resource exhibition, and discussion sessions that provided an opportunity to debate and attempt to answer various questions to inform the DCE roadmap. Catherine Jeanneau moderated the discussion forum on “Democracy in schools: promoting inclusion and empowerment through DCE,” which led to discussions on the role of schools and their various stakeholders in digital citizenship education and, above all, the need to place learners and practice at the heart of this education. The forum will continue its activities in the months to come with an other event planned in November 2025.
