On Thursday, 25th September 2025 Dr. Martin Nekola, political scientist, historian and election observer from Prague, delivered the first talk in this semester's CEUROS lecture series. 

His talk focused on "The Czech Republic, the European Union and the Rise of Populism". As he noted, the current political situation in the Czech Republic, country in the very heart of Europe, historically considered the crossroads between the West and the East, is the reflection of the latest developments in the entire European Union, currently facing a serious crisis, caused by Brexit, the refugee crisis, the war in Ukraine, and the associated rise of populist tendencies.
