Ahead of his sold-out event at the Great Hall of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, this coming Saturday, 8 November, Professor Joseph O'Connor was interviewed in the Sunday Times on Sunday, 2 November about the books that influenced him as a young author.

His choices includes James Plunkett's 'Strumpet City' (1969), a major novel of Dublin working-class life and activism set against the background of the 1913 Lockout, and 'The Usborne Book of Ghost Stories' (1977), a collection which has become a cult classic.

Joe's own novel 'The Ghosts of Rome' is shortlisted in two categories at the forthcoming Irish Book Awards: Novel of the Year, and Today FM Listeners' Choice.
