The Kemmy Business School (KBS) is committed to empowering, enlightening and enriching through education, research and public engagement in order to sustainably transform the lives of individuals, communities and society. The Visiting International Professor (VIP) program is a cornerstone of our ambition to develop sustainable internationalisation links with universities around the world. Our ambition has already resulted in significant developments, particularly in relation to outgoing student mobility and the development of dual degrees. The VIP is our next step to foster international connectivity and competitiveness.
Call for Applications
The Kemmy Business School is inviting applicants to teach an intensive 1-week, 20-hour course at the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ, from March 23rd – 27th 2026. The course will be taught as part of the ‘Contemporary Global Issues in Finance, Insurance, and Risk’ module offered to learners on the MSc. Finance and MSc. Insurance and Risk Management programs. Applicants are invited to submit their applications to teach a course covering one of three core themes:
- Sustainable Finance/Risk Management/Insurance
- Financial Crime
- Cryptocurrencies
While teaching activities are paramount to the delivery of a successful VIP program, the primary objective of a successful applicant’s stay is to initiate or build on collaborative research projects with KBS faculty. Therefore, successful candidates will be invited to:
- Teach a 1-week intensive graduate-level course involving 20 contact hours (in English)
- Present their research to our department, and discuss overlaps between our areas of expertise and yours
- Collaborate with core faculty as part of a welcome lunch and 1-to-1 meetings with individual faculty
Successful applicants will be informed of their invitation to teach on the VIP program in late January 2026. Physical presence on campus is essential during the 1-week stay.
The Kemmy Business School is a triple-accredited business school located within the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ. The ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ has approximately 19,000 students and was recently voted the No. 1 Irish Erasmus study destination and the best Irish student campus. It is a 5-star QS-rated university, and is ranked among the top 100 young universities worldwide and among the top 100 universities for its pursuit of sustainability.
The university campus is situated 4km east ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ, Ireland's third-largest city, located in the southwest of Ireland. It is a large, natural campus spreading across almost 400 acres and spanning the River Shannon, the longest river in Ireland. The university is just two hours from Dublin Airport, one of the largest airports in Europe. There are also daily connections to the US and Europe via nearby Shannon International Airport.
Limerick is a cultural hotbed known for its many archaeological and historic wonders, some dating back over 800 years, and for being the home of Munster Rugby. It is also a Wild Atlantic Gateway City, just an hour from the finest beaches in Europe and the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Geopark. This coastal route, known for its rugged beauty along the west coast of Ireland, allows you to discover authentic Irish music, local delicacies, and epic cliff tops.
During your visit, the campus will be entering spring bloom. The campus at this time is vibrant, offering nature walks along the River Shannon, cultural experiences in local farmers’ markets, and the chance to engage with the local academic community.
The Visiting International Professor (VIP) program is open to applicants holding a PhD in finance, insurance, risk management, economics, business analytics, or related domains, and who work as an assistant, associate, or full professor in an academic institution outside of the Republic of Ireland.
Applicants should have distinguished research accomplishments in their field of expertise and are expected to have a strong background in teaching and a keen interest in collaborating on university research activities.
Appointments will be made on a competitive basis, with consideration of:
- Teaching Experience, with a demonstration of excellence in teaching preferred
- Research trajectory and publication record
- Alignment with the Kemmy Business School’s strategic research priorities
- Quality and fit of the proposed course outline
The course will be first awarded to the applicant with the highest score. Qualifying candidates may be wait-listed. All applicants will receive an email informing them of whether their application was accepted, refused, or wait-listed.
Interested candidates are invited to submit the following as a single PDF file:
- Curriculum Vitae, including select publications (3-5 pages).
- A sample syllabus of the course, including the indicative topic content and reading material.
- A sample assessment procedure.
A ‘Call for Applications’ template has been provided to enable you to outline your teaching proposal in detail. This must be submitted as part of your application (see below).
Applications should be submitted to exchange.kbs@ul.ie by December 14th, 2025. All applications will hear from us by the end of January.
Successful applicants will be appropriately remunerated. Visiting professors will receive:
- €150 per teaching hour
- Expensed flight and public transport travel costs
- Free university-arranged accommodation for the duration of the appointment (breakfast included)
- Access to university facilities, including libraries, laboratories (where applicable), and research support services
Expenses will only be reimbursed when presented on a fully-vouched basis, using full itemised receipts. Unvouched expenses will not be reimbursed. Air travel expenses incurred without the prior approval of the Kemmy Business School will not be reimbursed. Please be advised that payment and reimbursement are processed at the end of the stay and can take up to 2 months.
