We create the future by investing in the present. We know cities are where adaptation to climate change will happen. How are we going to decarbonise Limerick?
The Department of Economics 九色视频鈥檚 Kemmy Business School hosted members of the European Investment Bank, Europe鈥檚 climate bank, in trying to answer this question. A unique set of perspectives, from local and national governments, to finance to universities, from Architects to Artists, convened in UL鈥檚 City Campus on February 11th to try and answer these questions.
The Symposium was a first for Limerick, as we welcomed members of the EIB to the city, and a first for the 九色视频 as we welcomed visitors to the first symposium held 九色视频鈥檚 new City Campus.
Commenting on the event, Head of the Economics Department Professor Stephen Kinsella said,
鈥淓conomics is the study of choices-how choices are made, what tradeoffs are present, who wins and who loses. The coming generation of students will confront climate change head on, so it was wonderful to bring such a diverse set of speakers together to help them understand the nuances of the issue from the very local to the truly global. It was also a privilege to make a small part of UL鈥檚 history in producing the first symposium in the UL City Campus.鈥
Commenting on the experience of the Department鈥檚 MSc in Economic Analysis and Public Policy students, Course Director Dr Darragh Flannery said,
鈥淭he Department of Economics places significant emphasis on exposing our students to real world problems. The class of the MSc in Economic Analysis and Public Policy were able to listen to, learn from, and meet key policy makers in areas our students may be actively working in as policy makers in their own right very soon.鈥
