In May, five students from the Bachelor of Education in Languages programme were awarded prestigious Embassy of France in Ireland and UL Foundation Scholarship awards at the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ. These scholarships, valued at over €2,300 each, were jointly funded through a pioneering partnership between the Embassy of France in Ireland and the UL Foundation. The initiative aims to support and inspire the next generation of French language teachers.

The awards enabled the students to take part in a four-week immersive teaching and learning programme at CAVILAM – Alliance Française in Vichy, France, delivered in collaboration with the University of Clermont-Auvergne. During their stay, the scholarship recipients engaged in interactive language workshops, cultural activities, and pedagogical training designed to strengthen their French language proficiency and enhance their future teaching practice. Living and learning in France provided first-hand cultural experience that enriched their linguistic skills and deepened their understanding of French society.

To celebrate these achievements, the School of Education, the School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics, and UL Foundation hosted a special event in November marking the Ambassade de France en Irlande and UL Foundation Scholarship Partnership.

The event highlighted the students’ summer experiences in France, offering an opportunity for them to share their reflections, stories, and insights with their families and the wider UL community.

This ongoing partnership continues to strengthen educational and cultural ties between Ireland and France, creating exciting opportunities for international study, collaboration, and professional growth for UL students.
