Justin Cotter, Graduate Testimonial
As a native ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ, I had always aspired to study at the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ. After more than 25 years in the engineering and construction industry—rising from an apprentice mechanical fitter to construction consultant on major international projects—I decided it was time to formalise my professional experience through academic study. I had encountered many of the real-world challenges that projects bring, but I wanted to deepen my understanding of best practices and develop the strategic and analytical skills to manage them more effectively.
The MSc in Project Management ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ provided exactly what I was looking for and more. It offered a balance of academic rigour and practical application that immediately translated into my professional work. The programme equipped me with a deeper understanding of project, programme, and portfolio management, as well as advanced techniques in governance, strategy, and stakeholder engagement. These skills have been invaluable in helping me deliver solutions to schedule, cost, and scope-related challenges on capital projects exceeding €300 million.
Equally transformative was the way the course reshaped my mindset. It taught me how to critically assess situations, evaluate risk, and lead teams with a stronger sense of purpose and adaptability. The emphasis on collaboration and interactive learning mirrored the dynamics of real-world project environments. Team-based exercises, case studies, and analytical assignments not only strengthened my decision-making but also gave me the confidence to implement hybrid approaches to planning and scheduling in organisations where traditional methods were proving inadequate.
The support and mentorship from UL’s faculty were outstanding. Their guidance and encouragement inspired me to continue my academic journey, and I am now pursuing a Professional Doctorate ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ under the supervision of my former MSc mentor—a reflection of how deeply this programme has influenced my professional and personal growth.
Completing the MSc with First Class Honours remains one of my proudest achievements. It was a demanding but immensely rewarding experience that enhanced my leadership capabilities and broadened my professional outlook. For anyone considering further study, I can wholeheartedly say th¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ’s MSc in Project Management is a life-changing programme that equips you not only to manage projects but to lead with confidence, vision, and purpose.
