Brief Description

 

Have you ever wanted to take your nursing practice, knowledge and skills further towards becoming an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)? 

±«³¢â€™s one-year part-time Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Practice (Nursing) can help you achieve your goal by developing the knowledge, skills, and clinical competencies necessary for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. 

The programme features individualised and flexible programme pathways for graduate nurses with interactive learning experiences that interweave theory and practice. 

This blended learning programme combines academic modules and supervised clinical practice. It prepares you for advanced health assessments and decision-making in multidisciplinary teams. 

 

During this programme, you will:  

  • Develop as a lead healthcare professional, gaining the advanced clinical decision-making skills needed to enhance care and improve outcomes your patients. 

  • Complete specialist modules in Leadership, Quality and Governance, designed to evolve your practice and prepare you for senior roles in nursing. 

  • Grow as an innovative practitioner, learning to assess and manage care in partnership with your patients and their families 

  • Understand the value of multidisciplinary collaboration, and how it contributes to the provision of high-quality, evidence-based care. 

Key information:  

  • Complete part-time over one year.  

  • Blended delivery – on campus and online

Year 1 

Autumn Semester 

  • explores how to become a leader in promoting the delivery of quality and safety in meeting individual and population healthcare needs.
  • develops the expertise necessary to function as an advanced nurse/midwife practitioner. 

Spring Semester 

  • Nursing enables students to develop competence in the five principles for advanced nursing practice. 

Summer Semester 

  • Nursing develops clinical knowledge and practice at an advanced level within the student’s specific area of practice.

  • Have a minimum of an MSc degree in Nursing or Midwifery or equivalent.    

  • Be a registered nurse on the current register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. 

  • Be engaged in practice as a registered nurse for at least three of the last five years, with a total of one year's full-time experience in the specific area of practice. 

  • Students are expected to work in a practice setting throughout the programme. 

  • Applicant must receive endorsement by their Director of Nursing and also identify a professional mentor and a clinical mentor.

We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet the standard entry requirements, as long as you can show that you have the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for the programme.

Checklist of documents   

*Professional Mentor is Registered Nurse/Midwife Practitioner, an Assistant Director of Nursing/Midwifery or a Director of Nursing/Midwifery (relevant to your area of advanced practice).  

**Clinical mentor is a Consultant or Registered Advanced Nurse/Midwife Practitioner relevant in your area of advanced practice. 

English Language 

  • English language competency certificate
  • English translation of your qualifications and transcripts

Guidelines on Completing your Application  

  • To make sure we can review your application quickly, please:
  • Upload all documents. Your application can’t be reviewed until we have all the documents on the checklist. 
  • Title the documents you are uploading. For example, "Clinical Practice Environment Self-Assessment Audit Declaration", "Undergraduate Transcript", "Postgraduate Transcript", "English Language Certificate" etc. 
  • *If you are waiting to graduate, submit your application with the documents you have to date, you don’t need to have finished final exams before applying.

Please note that international study visas are only available to students studying full-time in Ireland. This programme does not qualify for a study visa. 

Annual fees are billed by semester. Once registered, students may be eligible to apply for a monthly payment plan.
