Brief Description

An aidhm leis an modúl seo ná na mic léinn a ullmhú chun an Ghaeilge a úsáid sa chomhthéacs gairmiúil. Dianchúrsa teanga atá ann. Pléitear leis na scileanna teanga ar fad agus le téamaí coitianta teanga sa ghnáthshaol oibre. Bíonn deis ag mic léinn díriú ar an sainteanga a bhaineann leis an gcleachtas gairmiúiil. Bunsprioc ná an rannpháirtí a mhealladh agus a mhisniú chun níos mó Gaeilge a úsáid de réir a chéile ina (h)ionad oibre.  

The aim of this module is to prepare students to use Irish in their work context. It is an intensive language course. All language skills are developed, and common language themes in everyday working life are dealt with. Students focus on specific terminology relating to the professional setting. The primary goal is to encourage and develop the confidence of participants to gradually use more Irish in the workplace.

This course qualifies for 50% funding under the HCI Micro-Credential Course Learner Subsidy. Check fees section for details and eligibility.

Pléitear leis na téamaí seo a leanas sa siollabas: An Ghaeilge sa chleachtas gairmiúil; ag bualadh le daoine; ag labhairt faoin saol oibre agus faoi do phost féin; ag cur síos ar an suíomh oibre agus ar choinníollacha oibre; ag eagrú sceideal oibre; ag déileáil le garanna agus le hiarratais;  bainistíocht ama; ag déileáil le gearáin;  scríobh na Gaeilge – comhfhreagras scríofa; ainmneacha agus sloinnte Gaeilge; logainmneacha na hÉireann; ag tabhairt orduithe, ag déanamh geallúintí; teanga idirbheartaíochta agus argóna; agus ag labhairt faoin todhcaí. Múintear an ghramadach agus cruinneas na Gaeilge go córasach i gcomhthéacs ábhar an mhodúil.   

The syllabus includes the following themes: Irish for the professional context; meeting people;  talking about your working life and your position; describing the workplace and work conditions; organising schedules; dealing with favours and requests; time management; dealing with complaints; written Irish – written correspondence; names and surnames in Irish; place names; giving orders; negotiating and arguing, and making plans for the future. Grammar and language accuracy are dealt with systematically in the context of module topics. 

Learning Outcomes

Agus an modúl seo críochnaithe go rathúil ag na mic léinn, beidh siad in ann:  

  • dul i ngleic le brí ghinearálta téacsanna labhartha agus scríofa (gnáthchomhfhreagras / glórtheachtaireachtaí) ar thopaicí bainteach leis an saol oibre agus leis an gcleachtas gairmiúil;  
  • páirt a ghlacadh i gcomhráite faoi thopaicí an chúrsa, topaicí coitianta a bhaineann lena ngnáthshaol oibre féin agus le réimse de théacsanna scríofa;  
  • foclóir agus téarmaíocht faoi réimse éigin dá saol oibre / sainspéiseanna pearsanta a roinnt le comhghleacaithe i bhfoirm chur i láthair;  
  • comhráite maidir le topaicí sothuartha a bhfuil taithí acu orthu a stiúradh; agus  
  • teimpléid shamplacha do chomhfhreagras scríofa i nGaeilge (comhthéacs Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (Leasú) 2021 san áireamh) a dhearadh don chomhthéacs gairmiúil

 

  • grasp the general meaning of spoken and written texts (regular correspondence / voice messages) on topics relating to the workplace and their own professional context;  
  • participate in conversations about course topics, common topics relating to their everyday work context and a range of written texts;  
  • present vocabulary and terminology relating to their workplace or special interest topic to colleagues in an oral presentation;  
  • steer conversations on predictable, familiar topics in Irish;  
  • and design sample templates for written correspondence in Irish (including content relating to Official Languages Act (Amendment) 2021) for the professional setting. 

Assessment

Déanfar measúnú ar bhonn leanúnach, cur i láthair ó bhéal agus tascanna scríofa, mar shampla. Assessment will be on a continuous basis, for example, oral presentation and written assignments. 

The majority of applicants will be mature students (23 years or over on 1 January, year of registration). Current ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ students may also apply. Applicants who are not current UL or mature students, are required to hold, at the time of enrolment, the established Leaving Certificate (or approved equivalent) with a minimum of six subjects. These must include: two H5 (Higher) grades and four O6 (Ordinary) grades or four H7 (Higher) grades. Subjects must include Maths, Irish or another language, & English. Grade F6 in Foundation Maths also satisfies minimum entry requirements. A minimum H4 grade in Irish or TEG B1 is required and applicants should take the to assess and confirm their level.   

Beidh formhór na n-iarratasóirí ina mic léinn lánfhásta (23 bliain d’aois nó níos sine ar an 1 Eanáir sa bhliain chláraithe). Féadfaidh mic léinn reatha Ollscoil Luimnigh iarratas a chur isteach freisin. Ní mór d’iarratasóirí nach mic léinn reatha de chuid OL nó mic léinn lánfhásta iad an Ardteistiméireacht (nó cáilíocht aitheanta eile atá ar chomhchéim léi) a bheith bainte amach acu le sé ábhar ar a laghad tráth an chláraithe. Caithfear na riachtanais seo a leanas a chomhlíonadh: dhá ghrád H5 (Ardleibhéal), ceithre ghrád O6 (Gnáthleibhéal) nó ceithre ghrád H7 (Ardleibhéal). Ní mór go mbeidh na hábhair seo a leanas san áireamh: Matamaitic, Gaeilge nó teanga eile, agus Béarla. Glactar le grád F6 sa Mhatamaitic Bhunleibhéil mar chomhlíonadh ar na híosriachtanais iontrála. Tá grád H4 sa Ghaeilge nó leibhéal B1 de TEG mar bhunriachtanas agus moltar do gach iarratasóir triail a bhaint as an áis chun a leibhéal a mheas agus a dheimhniú.

Successful completion of this module does not automatically qualify you for entry into a further award. All programme applicants must meet the entry requirements listed if applying for a further award.
