Brief Description

Psychology plays a vital role in helping us understand complex social issues such as bullying, media influence, exclusion, and mental health.

This 12-week, Level 8 Micro-credential introduces you to key social psychological theories and shows how they can be applied to real-world challenges.

³Û´Ç³Ü’l±ô explore contemporary topics such as trauma, social conflict, parenting, and environmental action. Through engaging online lectures and discussion, you’ll develop the skills to critically analyse social issues, interpret research, and reflect on your own perspectives.

This module is ideal for mature learners, school-leavers, and those considering a career in psychology or a related field.

The module is associated with Psychology - Diploma. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award.

During this module, you will:

  • Build confidence in analysing contemporary social problems using psychological perspectives and evidence-based reasoning.

  • Explore how social psychology explains trauma, intergroup conflict, and the impact of identity on human behaviour.

  • Apply core theories including social identity theory to real-world issues such as mental health, media influence, parenting, and inclusion.

  • Develop key academic and communication skills through interactive online learning, case studies, and collaborative discussion.

Key Information:

This micro-credential will be delivered online over 12 weeks.

You will be assessed using continuous assessment with a final exam at the end of term.

To help you to be successful on this course: 

  • Open to applicants with a leaving certificate, including mature learners, those interested in psychology or switching into a psychology career. 

  • Applicants should have access to a computer/laptop to complete course work.
