Brief Description

Psychological theories don’t just live in textbooks; they shape how we understand and solve everyday problems. 

In this 12-week, Level 8 micro-credential, you’ll explore how psychological research, and theory can be applied in everyday contexts. From behaviour change to well-being and inclusion, you’ll critically evaluate how psychology can help address practical challenges. 

This module is ideal for students and mature learners who want to deepen their understanding of applied psychology and build practical skills for real-world challenges. It’s also suitable for professionals interested in switching into a psychology career.  

This module is associated with the Diploma in Psychology It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award.  

During this module, you will: 

  • Understand how psychological theories help explain everyday human behaviour
  • Develop your awareness of basic research methods and designs commonly used in psychological studies.
  • Identify the most suitable statistical test for several psychological research designs.
  • Learn how social environments shape individual behaviour, attitudes, and decisions. 

Key Information 

It will be delivered online over 12 weeks  

Lectures will be research led and based on empirical findings and theoretical debates. To enable collaborative learning and creative thinking, there will be online discussion forms. 

You will be assessed using continuous assessment methods, including assignments  (a podcast or video recording with a written transcription), practical exercises, and online activities.

To help you to be successful on this course: 

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree ( Level 8) with at least a second-class honours, grade 2 (2:2) in any discipline / a relevant discipline / [name(s) of discipline(s)].  
  • If applicants have a lower result or an unrelated qualification, they may be considered on a case-by-case basis if they can provide evidence of work experience (Recognised Prior Learning).
  • Learners will need to have access to a computer/laptop to complete course work.
