Brief Description
Aviation Skillnet funding available: Eligible companies and individuals can secure a 25% contribution towards course fees.
The Professional Diploma in Aviation Leasing & Finance is Ireland’s first university-accredited programme designed specifically for the aviation leasing sector.
Delivered part-time over one year and co-created with Aviation Skillnet, it features industry-led content alongside academic expertise.
Across six modules, you will explore the structure and dynamics of the air transport system, corporate finance in the airline sector, and the critical role of aircraft leasing. You’ll also build expertise in risk management, fleet planning, and the legal frameworks underpinning aviation finance.
Ideal for professionals with experience in aviation or related fields, the programme is delivered online with short on-campus sessions, offering both flexibility and practical engagement.
This programme earns 30 ECTS credits towards a Flexible Masters Pathway, allowing students to combine Postgraduate awards to achieve a Master’s over time.
During this programme, you will:
- Gain insights into key elements shaping the air transport system and the direction and scope of the airline business.
- Develop understanding of key issues in corporate finance related to the airline industry.
- Acquire depth knowledge of market, credit, operational political and corporate governance risk.
- Examine the legal framework governing the financing and leasing of aircraft and engines.
Key information:
- Complete part-time in one year
- Blended delivery – online lectures and 2 on-campus day per semester
- Modules taught during autumn and spring semesters
- Approx. 12 weeks per semester
- Modules with (M) beside them can be taken as independent micro-credential 
- Can be used to complete 30 credits towards Master of Professional Practice (MPP) or MSc Engineering Practice
You will learn through a blend of:
- Lectures, workshops, and hands-on activities
- Reflective practice and guided research
- Regular feedback from faculty and peers

Year 1
Autumn Semester
- Air Transportation Characteristics (M) (AM6001) provides an insight into the key elements shaping the air transport system and the direction and scope of the airline business.
- Corporate Airline Finance (M) (FI6052) develops understanding of key issues in corporate finance related to the airline industry.
- explores why leasing has become a core competency when acquiring aircraft.
Spring Semester
- Integrated Risk Management (M) (IN6002) provides in-depth knowledge of market, credit, operational political and corporate governance risk.
- introduces the key aspects of aircraft fleet planning.
- develops understanding of the legal framework governing the financing and leasing of aircraft and engines.
Books and journal articles needed for the course will be available online through the UL Glucksman Library.

- Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree ( Level 8) with at least a second-class honour, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant or appropriate subject.
- You should have at least 3- 5 years of relevant work experience, particularly in the areas of aviation and related industries.

We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet the standard entry requirements, as long as you can show that you have the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for the programme.

- Upload all documents. Your application can’t be reviewed until we have all the documents on the checklist. 
- Title the documents you are uploading. For example, "Personal Statement", "Undergraduate Transcript", "Postgraduate Transcript", "English Language Certificate" etc. 
- *If you are waiting to graduate, submit your application with the documents you have to date, you don’t need to have finished final exams before applying.

Please note that international study visas are only available to students studying full-time in Ireland. This programme does not qualify for a study visa.
Annual fees are billed by semester. Once registered, students may be eligible to apply for a monthly payment plan.
