Brief Description
How do legal systems shape the world of sport; from doping disputes to athlete contracts and disciplinary tribunals?
This 12-week, Level 9 micro-credential explores current and emerging legal issues in national and international sport. You’ll examine the rights and responsibilities of athletes, governing bodies, and stakeholders, while developing the ability to apply legal principles to real-world sporting contexts.
Designed for professionals and graduates in law, sport, or governance roles, this module strengthens your legal insight and critical thinking in an evolving field.
This module can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award.
A solicitor practising full-time and undertaking this course, can claim a maximum of 10 hours eLearning.
During this module, you will:
Analyse the legal frameworks that underpin national and international sports governance.
Examine legal issues around athlete rights, doping control, and disciplinary procedures.
Explore ethical and regulatory challenges facing modern sport, including commercialisation and equality.
Enhance your employability or prepare for further study in sports law, governance, or legal advisory roles.
Key Information:
The micro-credential will be delivered online over 12 weeks.
You will be assessed using continuous assessment methods, including a midterm and in-term and end of term essays.

To help you to be successful on this course:
Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree ( Level 8) with at least a second-class honours, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant discipline.
If applicants have a lower result or an unrelated qualification, they may be considered on a case-by-case basis under the University's Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) Policy.
