Brief Description

The Professional Diploma in Contemporary Taxation gives you the knowledge and practical tools to navigate complex tax systems in a rapidly evolving global environment.  

You will learn to interpret and apply tax legislation with confidence, develop negotiation skills to resolve disputes, and gain a deep understanding of both domestic and international tax frameworks, including double taxation relief and other contemporary issues. 

Alongside technical expertise, you will build skills in data analytics for tax planning and forecasting, and explore the risks, governance, and ethical implications of emerging technologies such as AI.  

Designed for professionals in tax, accounting, and finance, this flexible online programme will strengthen your ability to provide strategic tax advice, assess the wider social and economic impact of tax policy, and engage critically with the challenges shaping the future of the profession. 

This programme earns 30 ECTS credits towards a Flexible Masters Pathway, allowing students to combine Postgraduate awards to achieve a Master’s over time. 

During this programme, you will:  

  • Interpret and apply complex tax legislation with confidence. 

  • Develop an understanding of the principles underpinning domestic and international tax law and the risks inherent in their application to corporate entities. 

  • Acquire the skills to apply data analytics to tax issues and to understand the risk, ethics and governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. 

  • Analyse the broader social and economic impact of tax systems and policies. 

Key information: 

  • Complete part-time in one year   

  • Delivered online with a mix of pre-recorded and live lectures. 

  • Modules taught during autumn, spring and summer semesters 

  • Approx. 12 weeks per semester 

  • Modules with (M) beside them can be taken as independent micro-credential  

You will learn through a blend of:  

  • Lectures, workshops, and hands-on activities  

  • Reflective practice and guided research  

  • Regular feedback from faculty and peers

  • gain the acumen to make informed decisions concerning the ‘risk, ethics and governance’ of AI. 

Books and journal articles needed for the course will be available online through the UL Glucksman Library.

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree ( Level 8) with at least a second-class honour, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant discipline such as accounting, economics, law, engineering, public administration. 

Other Entry Considerations: 

We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet the standard entry requirements, as long as you can show that you have the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for the programme. 

 Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) recognition of prior learning may be considered in accordance with the university regulations. In assessing applications, the Course Team will consider relevant accredited tax qualifications, work experience etc. as being suitable prior learning.

  • *If you are waiting to graduate, submit your application with the documents you have to date, you don’t need to have finished final exams before applying.

Please note that international study visas are only available to students studying full-time in Ireland. This programme does not qualify for a study visa. 

Annual fees are billed by semester. Once registered, students may be eligible to apply for a monthly payment plan.
