Brief Description

Would you like to design tangible products, like medical devices, digital tools, like health apps, or services like patient pathways

Learn how to apply human-centred design and innovation to healthcare with UL鈥檚 one-year, part-time Professional Diploma in Designing Healthcare Products and Services.

This programme focuses on design thinking, empathy-driven processes, and user-centred methodologies to develop new healthcare products and services that improve patient experiences and outcomes.

You will explore healthcare service design, prototyping and testing, and UX/UI for medical solutions, while collaborating across disciplines such as design, engineering, business, and clinical practice.

Ideal for designers, engineers, clinicians, or innovators who want to improve patient experience and outcomes through better design.

This programme is a pathway to the MSc in Design for Health and Wellbeing and, also qualifies for a Flexible Master's Pathway, allowing students to combine postgraduate awards to achieve a master鈥檚 over time.

During this programme, you will:

  • Gain an understanding of product and service design innovation, process design, manufacturing design and strategic design.

  • Explore real-world challenges linked with industry (health services, medical devices, life sciences) and healthcare providers and work on external partner specified design briefs around specific development requests.

  • Develop expertise in ethics and good clinical practice for medical device design and regulations.

  • Conduct design research in a clinical setting to uncover healthcare needs to create a design guide on service systems solutions.

  • Learn about entrepreneurship and the analytical and conceptual skills required to establish a new innovative venture in healthcare

Graduate Bernie Higgins 鈥 Nurse

鈥淔rom the short 6 weeks we've done, it's clear that you have created a wonderful safe space for people to be themselves and nurture their wonderful ideas. I love the blue-sky ideas' element. I really feel this module should be merged into a nursing degree or any healthcare-related profession. Nurses, in particular, in our daily workloads are improvising to improve patient care if we don't have the necessary equipment or product to hand. We adapt to our environment. What I find interesting is the number of people who say 'I'm not creative', people just need to be armed with the skills to do so. This module has ignited my ever-curious mind. So, thank you all for providing an interesting module.鈥
