Brief Description

Understanding the law is essential in many aspects of life, from navigating your rights as a citizen to making informed decisions in business or public service. 

This 12-week, Level 8 micro-credential introduces you to the foundations of the Irish legal system. You will explore how the Constitution, courts, and legal professions operate, and learn about key areas such as criminal law, tort law, and European Union (EU) law. 

Designed for anyone interested in gaining practical insight into how Irish law works, this module will help you build your legal literacy and confidence in engaging with legal processes. 

This module can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module. 

During this module, you will: 

  • Explore how the Irish legal system is structured, including the role of courts, judges, and legal professionals 

  • Understand key areas of Irish law such as constitutional, criminal, tort, and EU law 

  • Learn to identify legal sources and interpret case law in a common law context 

  • Build your confidence in applying legal knowledge to real-life situations 

Key Information

This micro-credential will be delivered online over 12 weeks. 

You will be assessed using continuous skill-based assignments including a number of essays.
