Brief Description

Helping people stay well is a vital part of healthcare, and healthcare professionals play an important role in promoting health and reducing inequalities.   

This 12-week, Level 9 Micro-credential is for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals who want to build confidence in supporting health and wellbeing as part of their everyday practice.  

³Û´Ç³Ü’l±ô explore the principles, models and theories that underpin health promotion, and consider how behaviour change strategies can be used across different care settings.   

The module will also help you understand how programmes are developed and evaluated, and how your role can support prevention, equity and empowerment.  

³Û´Ç³Ü’l±ô also reflect on the values, policies and partnerships that shape health promotion, and how to work effectively with individuals, families and communities.  

This module is associated with Infection Prevention and Control Leadership - MSc. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award. 

During this module, you will: 

  • Build a clear understanding of the core principles, values and models of health promotion 

  • Explore how behaviour change theory can inform practice across healthcare settings 

  • Develop awareness of how health promotion programmes are planned, implemented and evaluated 

  • Build skills to support people and populations in making positive, sustainable health choices  

Key Information 

This micro-credential will be delivered in a blended format over 12 weeks. 

You will be assessed using continuous online assessment with no final exam.

  • Timetable provided after registration 

To help you to be successful on this course:  

  • You should be a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife on the current register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.

  • By applying, you confirm that you meet the entry requirements and can take part in the course and its assessments.  

  • This course will go ahead if it meets minimum enrolment number.  

  • Completing this module doesn’t guarantee you a place in a full programme. If you want to apply for a full programme, you must meet the specific entry requirements for that programme.
