Health and social care professionals regularly work with individuals and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. This 6-week, micro-credential helps you build the awareness and skills needed to engage more inclusively and effectively in these settings.

In this interactive, practice-based module will learn how social structures, power, privilege and unconscious bias influence the way people access and experience care. You will explore intercultural communication and acquire strategies to improve patient or client interactions in your work environment.

Whether you work in healthcare, social care or community support, this module will help you build confidence and cultural sensitivity in your professional role. You will be part of a diverse group of learners with many opportunities for discussion and collaboration.

This module can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award. For example, a Professional Certificate in Healthcare Interpreting.

During this module, you will:

  • Explore how culture, power and privilege shape access to health and social care

  • Examine the impact of unconscious bias and systemic inequality in professional settings
