Brief Description

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are driving the next industrial revolution, known as Industry 4.0.

These technologies are reshaping how we live, work, and deliver services across sectors including manufacturing, healthcare, transport, and urban development.

This 13-week, Level 9 micro-credential introduces the principles and applications of CPS and IoT, bridging physical systems with digital technologies.

You will explore system architecture, sensing, real-time data, and practical use cases, while developing critical insight into cybersecurity, ethics, and emerging trends.

The module is ideal for engineers, technologists, or professionals seeking to build future-ready skills in automation and smart technologies.

This module is associated with the Professional Diploma Digitalisation of Business & Industry Processes.

It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award.

During this module, you will:

  • Learn the core concepts and architecture of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

  • Explore the real-world applications of CPS and IoT across sectors including manufacturing, healthcare, transport, and smart cities.

  • Build confidence working with sensing, actuation, data communication, and system integration through practical examples.

  • Gain insight into cybersecurity, ethics, and future trends, and prepare for emerging roles in automation, IoT, and digital transformation, or integrate these technologies into your existing field of expertise.
