Brief Description
Digital transformation is reshaping every sector from finance and aviation to healthcare and social media. As technologies evolve, so too must the laws and governance structures that protect individuals, organisations, and society.
The Professional Diploma in Law and Technology equips you to lead that change.
Whether you're a consultant, advisor, technologist, or business leader, you will gain the legal insight and strategic tools to respond confidently to the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, data privacy, cybersecurity, and digital platforms.
You don’t need a legal background to succeed in this programme. You’ll be supported to build your understanding from the ground up, with practical learning and expert guidance.
This programme will earn 30 ECTS credits towards a Flexible Masters Pathway, allowing students to combine Postgraduate awards to achieve a Master’s over time.
During this programme, you will:
- Gain a strategic understanding of how emerging technologies like AI, social media, and big data are reshaping legal and regulatory landscapes.
- Build a future-ready skillset that positions you as a trusted advisor in law, compliance, and governance within new technological ecosystems.
- Learn how to design and implement legal frameworks that support innovation while protecting organisations and individuals.
- Develop the confidence to lead conversations around digital ethics, privacy, and cybersecurity in your workplace or consultancy practice.
- Apply your learning through real-world scenarios, reflective practice, and expert-led workshops.
- Join a flexible, online learning environment designed to support busy professionals from all backgrounds.
Key Information:
- Complete part-time over one year
- Delivered online
- Modules taught during spring and autumn semesters
- Approx. 12 weeks per semester
- Can be used to complete 30 credits towards Master of Professional Practice (MPP) or MSc Engineering Practice
You will learn through a blend of:
- Lectures, workshops, and hands-on activities
- Reflective practice and guided research
- Regular feedback from faculty and peers
Part - time considerations:

- Evening or recorded lectures
- Additional prep and group work time
Spring Semester
- will explain the roles of legal and regulatory frameworks in monitoring the integration of new technology and artificial intelligence.
- will discuss the law relating to new digital technologies, particularly regulation around social media as well as competition law and liability issues.
- will equip you with the tools you need to reflect and document your experiences and understanding. It will also feature a series of talks on the future of technology, markets and society.
Autumn Semester:
- will examine the theory behind privacy law and the frameworks which aim to protect personal data.
- will look at the legal provisions designed to protect against cybercrime, including developing policy.
- will enable you to create a portfolio showcasing the development of your knowledge, and your ability to make evidence-based conclusions.
Books and journal articles needed for the programme will be available online through the UL Glucksman Library.

- Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree (Level 8) with at least a second-class honour, grade 2 (2:2) in any discipline.

- Title the documents you are uploading. For example, "Personal Statement", "Undergraduate Transcript", "Postgraduate Transcript", "English Language Certificate" etc. 
- *If you are waiting to graduate, submit your application with the documents you have to date, you don’t need to have finished final exams before applying.
