Brief Description

As people live longer, the need for coordinated, high-quality care in later life has never been greater.  

This 12-week, Level 9 Micro-credential is designed for registered nurses who want to deepen their knowledge of gerontological care and take a leading role in supporting older people across a range of healthcare settings.  

During the module, you will explore how to coordinate and evaluate therapeutic interventions for older people within a person-centred care framework.  

You will also reflect on your role in supporting older people and their families during care transitions, across home, community, residential, acute and rehabilitation settings.  

The module covers ethical practice, interdisciplinary teamwork, and the importance of health promotion, coaching and supporting self-determination in later life.  

This module is associated with Nursing (Older Person) - MSc, and Nursing - MSc. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award. 

During this module, you will: 

  • Learn how to coordinate and evaluate therapeutic interventions for older people 

  • Explore your role in promoting wellness, coaching and re-enablement 

  • Understand how to support care transitions across home, community, residential and acute settings 

  • Build ethical, person-centred leadership skills to support older people and their families  

  • Understand one's role within the interdisciplinary team in caring for older people and their families.  

Key Information: 

This micro-credential will be delivered in a blended format over 12 weeks. 

You will be assessed using continuous online assessment with no final exam.

  • Timetable provided after registration (typically 6 in-person sessions) 

To help you to be successful on this course:  

You should be a Registered Nurse on the current register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
