Brief Description
Place yourself at the forefront of one of the most pressing global issues with ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµâ€™s MA in Migration Studies.
This full-time, one-year programme offers a unique interdisciplinary approach to understanding migration through the lenses of literature, media, geography, history, health, music, politics, sociology, law, and psychology.
You’ll explore the causes and consequences of migration and its impact on individuals, communities, and societies. The course combines academic study with practical experience, including the option to complete a migration internship (Praxis).
Delivered on campus, the programme is designed to support students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines who are passionate about migration and social change.
During this programme, you will:
- Gain a deep understanding of different aspects of migration.
- Acquire real world insight into migration issues through the migration internship option.
- Explore the causes, effects and impact of migration on society, culture and the economy.
- Learn how migration has been studied from different perspectives and different academic disciplines.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of migration issues from your chosen academic specialism.
- Benefit from a blend of lectures, workshops, hands-on activities and guided research.
Key Information:
- Complete full-time in one year
- Delivered on campus
- Modules taught during autumn and spring semesters
- Submit dissertation or migration praxis report at the end of the final semester
- Full-time students take 1 core module and at least elective modules each semester
- Option to complete a migration internship (Migration Praxis)
Year 1
Autumn Semester
Core Module:
- ) introduces students to migration studies and how we think about migration across a range of disciplines, including history, literature, geography, politics, medical anthropology and public health.

Spring Semester
Core module:
- continues to introduce students to migration studies and how we think about migration across a range of disciplines, including cultural & media studies, psychology, sociology, music and movement studies.
Electives – choose two or three to obtain 18 credits

- in the area of Migration Studies (15,000 words)

- offers students a flexible, self-directed international internship experience designed to develop professional, research, and intercultural skills, while encouraging critical reflection on applying academic knowledge in addition to a 7,000 – 8,000 word report.
Books and journal articles needed for the course will be available online through the UL Glucksman Library.

- Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree ( Level 8) with at least a second-class honour, grade 2 (2:2) in any discipline.
- The university may shortlist and invite you to an interview.

- *If you are waiting to graduate, submit your application with the documents you have to date, you don’t need to have finished final exams before applying.
