Successful organisations depend on efficient operations. Managing capacity and quality, designing processes, and improving performance are all essential to success.

This 12-week, Level 9 micro-credential introduces key operations management concepts, including lean systems, performance control, and supply-demand alignment. You’ll explore how to analyse, design, and enhance operations in real-world business contexts.

Designed for professionals in business, supply chain, or manufacturing roles, this module builds practical skills to improve operational effectiveness and supports progression to further study in operations or supply chain management.

This module is associated with the MSc in Supply Chain Operations. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award.

The purpose of this module is to provide an integrated and comprehensive understanding of the merits, limitations, and applicability of the diverse operations management approaches currently available for manufacturing and service enterprises.

During this module, you will:

  • Learn how to analyse, design, and manage operations to support organisational efficiency and competitiveness.

  • Explore tools and techniques for improving performance, quality, and capacity in both service and manufacturing environments.

  • Understand how lean systems, inventory control, and process design contribute to streamlined operations.

  • Strengthen your career prospects or prepare for further study in operations, logistics, or supply chain management.
