Brief Description

Caring for people with life-limiting illnesses requires a sensitive, skilled and person-centred approach. This 12-week, Level 9 micro-credential is designed for registered nurses or midwives who want to develop their knowledge and confidence in delivering high-quality palliative care.  

³Û´Ç³Ü’l±ô explore the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of people receiving palliative care. ³Û´Ç³Ü’l±ô learn how to provide holistic support, promote comfort and dignity, and respond to patients and families at all stages of illness and bereavement.  

This micro-credential will help you strengthen your clinical and communication skills so you can provide thoughtful, effective care across a range of settings.  

This module is associated with Nursing (Palliative Care) - MSc. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award. 

During this module, you will: 

  • Learn how to care for people with life-limiting illness, based on national and international best practices 

  • Understand how physical, emotional and spiritual needs are linked during illness, loss and end-of-life care 

  • Support patients and families through illness using clear, compassionate communication 

  • Build confidence in working with others to plan and deliver care that meets each person’s needs

This micro-credential will be delivered in a blended format over 12 weeks. 

You will be assessed using continuous assessment with no final exam.

To help you to be successful on this course: 

You must be a registered nurse or registered midwife on the current register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
