In an increasingly complex and competitive business environment, continuous improvement is a critical skill for driving innovation, operational efficiency and positive customer impact.

This 15-week, Level 9 micro-credential gives you practical, in-demand tools to analyse and improve processes using proven Six Sigma methodologies. You’ll explore techniques such as statistical process control, cause-and-effect analysis, and the Taguchi method to reduce errors and enhance quality outcomes.

You’ll also learn about the key roles and structures that support continuous improvement within organisations, from executive leadership to Six Sigma belts.

Designed for managers, supervisors, or professionals responsible for quality, operations, or performance improvement, this module supports career progression or further study in business process excellence.

This module is associated with the MSc in Strategic Quality Management - Lean Sigma Systems. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award.

During this module, you will:

  • Understand Six Sigma principles and how they can be used to solve problems and drive quality improvements in manufacturing and service sectors

  • Learn how to use data-driven techniques such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Design of Experiments (DOE).

  • Gain hands on experience of using the Taguchi method, root cause analysis, and cause-and-effect mapping to identify and eliminate process inefficiencies.

  • Build practical knowledge that supports continuous improvement and prepares you for leadership roles in quality, operations, or Lean Sigma systems.
