Brief Description
Are you considering a master’s in psychology, but don’t have the required undergraduate psychology credits to take the next step?
UL’s one-year full-time or two years part-time online Psychology – Diploma is designed for graduates to earn the required psychology credits to take the next step on their psychology career journey.
You’ll study key areas of psychology and, on successful completion, be eligible to apply for postgraduate conversion courses such as the MA in Psychology.
If you hold an honours undergraduate degree in any subject area and have an interest in switching to study psychology, this diploma can help you bridge into master’s study.
During this programme, you will:
- Gain a foundational understanding of the key principles and methods of psychology.
- Explore core areas such as social and developmental psychology, health psychology, and applied psychology.
- Build your skills in collecting, coding, and analysing empirical data using SPSS software.
- Prepare for postgraduate conversion courses, including the MA in Psychology, by completing the required 60 ECTS psychology credits.
Key information:
- Complete full-time in one year.
- Delivered online.
Students can exit with a Certificate in Psychology (level 8, Special- purpose award), after successfully completing any 30-credits.
- Delivered through recorded lectures.
- Modules taught during autumn and spring semesters.
- You will graduate with a Psychology Diploma Level 8.
- Modules with (M) beside them can be taken as independent micro-credentials.
You will learn through a blend of:
- Lectures and hands-on activities
- Reflective practice and guided research
- Regular feedback from faculty and peers
Year 1 - Full Time
Autumn / Spring Semester
- will introduce you to the historical evolution, themes and theories in psychology as well as a good grounding in a range of theoretical perspectives.
- Applications of Psychology for Real Life (M)(PS3011) will explore how psychology is applied in everyday contexts such as education, healthcare, and community settings.
- Practical and Research Psychology 1 (M) (PS3021) will help you develop skills in designing experiments, analysing data, and using statistical software for psychological research.
- will examine how psychological theories are translated into practice across a range of professional environments.
- will introduce you to mental health conditions, their diagnosis, and evidence-based approaches to treatment.
- will explore how psychological principles are used to support behaviour change, patient care, and decision-making in healthcare.
- will examine how social identity, culture and group dynamics influence behaviour, attitudes, and societal structures.
- Application of Psychology to Social Issues (M) (PS3051) will explore how psychological research informs responses to current social challenges, including inequality and marginalisation.
- will build on your earlier learning, introducing more advanced psychological theory and applied research techniques.
- Practical and Research Psychology 2 (M)(PS3071) will develop your understanding of laboratory-based activities in psychology and provide opportunities to carry out practical studies. You will build skills in collecting, coding, and analysing empirical data using SPSS.

- Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree ( Level 8) with at least a second-class honours, grade 2:2 in any discipline.
- The university may shortlist and interview applicants.

- To make sure we can review your application quickly, please: 
- Upload all documents. Your application can’t be reviewed until we have all the documents on the checklist.  
- Title the documents you are uploading. For example, "Personal Statement", "Undergraduate Transcript", "Postgraduate Transcript", "English Language Certificate" etc.  
- *If you are waiting to graduate, you can submit your application with the documents you have to date, you do not need to have finished final exams before applying.
EU – Full-Time €6,400, Part-Time €TBC per annum*
Non-EU – Full-Time €13,700, Part-Time €TBC per annum*

Annual fees are billed by semester. Once registered, students may be eligible to apply for a monthly payment plan.
