During this programme, you will:   

• Learn to manage contemporary social and societal issues in an innovative, evidence-based, reflective, culturally sensitive and sustainable way.   

• Develop intercultural knowledge and research in social, cultural and health psychology at two European universities.  

• Choose from pathways that will lead you to Poland, Norway, Portugal and Ireland. There are three pathways – Culture and Diversity (Path A), Mobility, Intervention and Society (Path B), Inclusion and Health (Path C).

• Complete a 300-hour internship and apply your skills in real-world settings.

• Access international research and career possibilities in intercultural relations, human rights, migration, and global development. 

Key information:  

• Complete full-time over two years. 

• Delivered on campus at two European Universities. 

• You will graduate with a Level 9 Joint Master of Science degree in the Psychology of Global Mobility, Inclusion and Diversity in Society. 

• Modules will be taught over two years, during autumn, spring and summer semesters. 

• At the end of Year 1, all students attend a summer school in cross-cultural methods and interventions at ��ɫ��Ƶ. 

• A choice of general and method electives will allow you to deepen your knowledge in your area of interest. 

• Submit a research dissertation in the summer semester of year two. 

Students choose from three pathways when they apply:  

A – Culture and Diversity 

B- Mobility, Intervention and Society 

C - Inclusion and Health. 

Path A:  

Students begin their studies at ISCTE – IUL in Lisbon, Portugal. Semester 2 takes place at ��ɫ��Ƶ, Ireland.  

Path B:  

Students begin their studies at SWPS University in Warsaw, Poland. Semester 2 takes place at University of Oslo, Norway. 

Path C:  

Students begin their studies at SWPS University in Warsaw, Poland. Semester 2 takes place at ��ɫ��Ƶ, Ireland. 

In year 2 students pursue their internship and thesis at one of the two universities in their chosen path.  

You will learn through a blend of: 

• Lectures, workshops, and experiential learning 

• Reflective practice and supervised research 

• Internship 

• Regular feedback from faculty and peers through group work and assessments 

Year 1 

Path A: Culture and Diversity 

Autumn Semester (ISCTE – IUL, Portugal) 

Core modules: 

• will teach you the skills to identify essential issues in the application of cultural psychology to everyday situations 

• will analyse the psychological roots of bias and discrimination, and evaluate interventions aimed at promoting social equality. 

• will examine the dynamics of intercultural encounters, with a focus on communication, adaptation, and identity.

• will explore how psychological processes influence political behaviour, ideology, identity, and engagement in diverse societies. 

• will examine the role of psychology in promoting community wellbeing, social justice, and empowerment through grassroots interventions.

Path B: Mobility, Interventions and Society 

Autumn Semester (SWPS University, Poland) 

Core modules: 

• will explore how social interactions and group processes evolve over time, with a focus on influence, identity, and collective behaviour. 

• will explore psychological adaptation among migrants, focusing on identity, acculturation stress, and economic integration. 

• will examine how values, norms, and traditions shape cognition, emotion, and social behaviour across cultures. 

• will introduce methodological tools and statistical techniques suited for research in multicultural and cross-cultural contexts. 

• will develop your practical skills for effective communication, empathy, and collaboration in intercultural professional environments. 

Spring Semester (University of Oslo, Norway) 

• will examine how social psychological principles can be applied to promote positive change in attitudes, behaviours, and social systems. 

• will explore the psychological dimensions of post-conflict recovery, focusing on justice, reconciliation, and the rebuilding of democratic institutions.

Path C: Inclusion and Health 

Autumn Semester (SWPS University, Poland) 

• will explore how social interactions and group processes evolve over time, with a focus on influence, identity, and collective behaviour. 

• will examine the psychological experiences of migrants, including adaptation, identity negotiation, and responses to socio-economic challenges. 

• will investigate how cultural systems influence thought, emotion, motivation, and interpersonal behaviour across different societies. 

• will introduce advanced research design and data analysis methods tailored to multicultural and cross-cultural contexts. 

• will build practical skills for effective interaction across cultures, including empathy, communication, and cultural intelligence.  

Spring Semester (��ɫ��Ƶ, Ireland) 

• will explore developments in health psychology research and to reflect on the contributions of health psychology to individuals and societies, locally and globally. 

• will explore the psychological impact of migration on individuals and communities, focusing on inclusion, health outcomes, and access to support services.

Summer Semester  

All Pathways: 

Year 2 

Autumn - All Pathways 

Internship: Students will undertake a 3-month internship (at least 300 hours) at any organisation, in any country, and should preferably be supervised by a psychologist at the organisation. 

Students work in parallel on their master thesis.  

Spring and Summer– All Pathways 

Students work on their master thesis under the supervision of staff from a partner university. The thesis is submitted at the end of June, followed by a viva defence. The dates will vary for each pathway and will be completed before the end of August. 

Books and journal articles needed for the course will be available online through the UL Glucksman Library and the libraries of all partner universities.

• Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree ( Level 8,) with at least a second-class honour, grade 2 (2:2) in psychology.
• Applicants should have successfully completed a minimum of 100 ECTS credits in psychology or equivalent experience in psychology and research methods.
• Candidates will be interviewed as part of the selection process, especially when they apply for the Erasmus Mundus scholarships.

Guidelines on Completing your Application  

You will be asked to convert your country specific qualifications to the Irish equivalent. For details on country-specific qualifications visit postgraduate entry requirements for international students. You will be asked to include the details from your CV which includes all work, voluntary and internship experience and all research experience. Have your CV to hand to complete this. Next you will be asked to include your personal statement using no more than 20,000 characters. We want to know how your previous experience and interests relate to your application to the Global MINDS programme. 

Applications are open from the 1st October 2025 and close on the 9th January 2026. Between 12th and 22rd January 2026 evaluators review applications. On 23rd January the Governing Board meet to shortlist applicants. Between 26th and 30th January applicants are informed by email of shortlisting result: rejected, waiting list and top candidates. The top 60 from each path will receive a link from UL Graduate and Professional Studies to apply and upload qualification transcripts and English proficiency documents deadline 13th February. By the 27th February documents are verified, and the Governing Board meet to review candidates for interview. Interviews are scheduled between 2nd and 6th March 2026. Between 9th and 13th March interviews take place and candidates are ranked by path and funding type. Governing Board meet to agree offers and offers are sent by email by 23rd March 2026.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarships:  

The final funded cohort of students will be enrolled in 2026.  

We offer: 

Full scholarships: €1,400 per month for the 2 years (amounting to €33,600) 

Partial scholarships: these involve waivers of the tuition fees 

For each cohort, we offer 10 full scholarships and 15 partial scholarships. 

Self-paying students:  

Annual fees are billed by semester. Once registered, students may be eligible to apply for a monthly payment plan.

Rob Brennan - After completing the B.Sc. in Psychology ��ɫ��Ƶ, I knew that my passions in the field lay in the sub-disciplines of social, cultural and political psychology. Applying for Global MINDS seemed like the ideal next step in pursuing these interests. As expected, the course proved to have an in-depth theoretical focus on identity, intergroup processes and attitudes. I also gained valuable practical experience. In addition to improving my skills in research methods, I also learned how to design real-world interventions based in theory. However, I think the most rewarding aspect of Global MINDS was the opportunity to share ideas and diverse viewpoints with inspiring people across many international contexts. What I learned from my peers and instructors during my Global MINDS experience has been invaluable, both professionally and personally. Since graduating in 2020, this unique Masters degree has helped me gain acceptance into a PhD programme that challenges existing social-psychological theories on the fickle construct of dehumanisation. I would recommend Global MINDS to anyone who wishes to pursue their passions for diversity, culture and politics while developing their professional skills in psychological science.
