Brief Description
Supporting people with mental health difficulties involves clinical skill, structured communication and the confidence to apply evidence-based approaches in real-world settings.
This 12-week, Level 9 micro-credential is designed for nurses and healthcare professionals who want to build their ability to assess and support individuals using psychosocial interventions.
Students will develop and advance your skills in applying frameworks such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), family intervention skills and motivational approaches.
You’ll also explore clinical problem-solving and use critical reflection to develop creative, collaborative responses to complex social and mental health needs.
This module will support you in becoming a confident, reflective practitioner, able to deliver recovery-focused, person-centred care.
This module is associated with the Nursing - MSc, Nursing (Psychosocial Interventions in Mental Health Care) - MSc. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award.
During this module, you will:
Develop the clinical skills to assess and respond to common mental health difficulties using structured psychosocial approaches
Learn how to apply frameworks such as CBT, DBT, IPT, family interventions and motivational strategies in practice
Strengthen your ability to reflect critically, solve problems and adapt care in complex clinical and social situations
Build the confidence to deliver collaborative, recovery-focused support in mental health settings
Key Information:
This micro-credential will be delivered in a blended format over 12 weeks.
You will be assessed using written case study assignment, which will account for 100% of your final grade.

You must be a registered nurse on the current register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
