Brief Description

In today’s global economy, supply chains must be efficient, resilient, and responsive to change. Simulation modelling plays an important role in helping organisations understand, test, and improve complex logistics across the supply chain.

This 5-week, Level 9 micro-credential introduces you to the fundamentals of simulation in the supply chain and the software used for simulation modelling.

³Û´Ç³Ü’l±ô learn how to build and analyse discrete event simulation models, evaluate performance metrics, and use simulation to support business decisions.

Designed for professionals working in, or seeking employment in, logistics, operations, or manufacturing, this module helps you develop sought-after practical supply chain modelling skills.

This module is associated withProfessional Diploma Supply Chain Management and the MSc in Supply Chain Operations. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award.

During this module, you will:

  • Learn how to build, run, and analyse discrete event simulation models using dedicated software to optimise supply chain performance.

  • Understand how simulation can be used to test real-world scenarios, reduce risk, and support data-driven decision-making in logistics and operations.

  • Explore key performance metrics and modelling techniques used to evaluate complex supply chain systems.

  • Gain practical skills to support employment in supply chain roles or progress to further study in operations and logistics management.

Key Information

This micro-credential will be delivered online over 5 weeks.

You will be assessed using continuous assessment methods, including assignments, practical exercises, and online activities.

Assignments will be set in Weeks 1, 2, and 4 of the module, based on lecture and module material. A final case study assignment, worth 50% of the overall grade, is due at the end of the module.

Part-time considerations:

  • Designed for working professionals

  • Evening or recorded lectures

  • Additional prep and group work time

  • Timetable provided after registration

To help you to be successful on this course:

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree ( Level 8) with at least a second-class honours, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant discipline.

  • Applicants are expected to have a foundational understanding or should be interested in to learn simulation modelling and the application of simulation tools and software.

  • Applicants should also have a basic understanding of Supply Chain Management.

  • If applicants have a lower result or an unrelated qualification, they may be considered on a case-by-case basis if they can provide evidence of 2 or more years of work experience (Recognised Prior Learning).

Guidelines for your applications:

  • When applying, be sure to include the Module Code IE5002. We can’t process your application without it. You can apply for more than one module using the same application.

  • By applying, you confirm that you meet the entry requirements and can take part in the course and its assessments.
