Brief Description
As globalisation continues to shape the world, understanding its drivers, challenges, and impacts is vital for informed decision-making.
This 12-week, Level 9 micro-credential explores how global economic integration affects national economies, institutions, and long-term development. You’ll examine critical issues such as global inequality, political instability, and climate-related disruption, learning how nations cope with and adapt to major economic shifts.
Ideal for professionals looking to build expertise in global economic policy, this module also supports progression toward postgraduate study in economics or public policy.
This module is associated with the Economics and Public Policy - Postgraduate Diploma. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award.
During this module, you will:
Explore the historical and economic context that led to the creation of institutions like the World Bank, IMF, and key European bodies.
Analyse how short-term shocks (such as political instability or climate disasters) and long-term trends (like migration and globalisation) impact national economies.
Evaluate why some countries have prospered while others have not, using data and economic theory.
Prepare for further postgraduate study in economics by developing a critical understanding of complex global issues and how to navigate them.
