Brief Description
How you connect with others is central to your work in mental health care. This 12-week, Level 9 micro-credential is for nurses, midwives and healthcare professionals who want to build confidence and skills in using therapeutic engagement at a more advanced level.
³Û´Ç³Ü’l±ô explore key theories that guide therapeutic work, including person-centred, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic approaches.
³Û´Ç³Ü’l±ô also learn practical CBT techniques to support assessment, case formulation and behaviour change. There is a strong focus on communication, collaboration and supporting people through trauma or mental health challenges, including in perinatal care.
Throughout the module, you’ll reflect on your own communication style and values, and learn how therapeutic engagement can support healing, recovery and better outcomes for the people you care for.
This module is associated with the Advanced Clinical Practice - Postgraduate Certificate, Nursing Studies MSc, Perinatal Mental Health - MSc. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award.
During this module, you will:
Develop your skills in assessment, case formulation and therapeutic engagement
Explore how person-centred care supports recovery, including in perinatal mental health
Learn how to apply CBT techniques to support health and wellbeing in mental health care
Reflect on the role of relationships, communication and collaboration in effective practice
Key Information:
This micro-credential will be delivered in a blended format over 12 weeks.
You will be assessed using written case study assignment, which will account for 100% of your final grade.

To help you to be successful on this course:
You must hold a recognised health-related professional qualification.
You must be registered with a relevant professional statutory body, e.g., NIMBI, CORU, PHECC.
