CONTEXT

Developments in key and emerging technologies are changing the way we define digital skills and the extent to which we depend on technology. The COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted the existing shortage of digital experts in Europe. Europe has a significant and systemic gap between market needs and what is offered in terms of skills related to advanced digital technologies.

53% of companies trying to recruit ICT specialists find it difficult while only 65% has digital skills which are “above basic”. This contributes to refrain from the uptake of advanced digital technologies responding to the needs of both people in the workforce and job seekers who need to upskill.

The  supports strategic projects to answer these challenges and supports the development of a skilled talent pool of European digital experts encouraging cooperation between higher education, research and businesses; sparking interest of Europeans in digital careers and attract the best talents.

OBJECTIVES

The aim of REBOOT SKILLS is to enable workers who are at present or who wish to be employed in the manufacturing sector to access advanced digital upskilling opportunities that can help them keep pace with the latest developments in Cybersecurity, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT). The project brings together a novel mix of EU education providers and professional organizations to deliver a bespoke upskilling model of advanced digital skills-based through short training course that will jointly empower workers and the manufacturing industry at this critical time for European manufacturing industry ecosystem.

Project specific objectives are:

  1. Create a sustainable and collaborative training offering serving the digitalization needs of SMEs operating in key capacity areas.
  2. Facilitate access by SMEs owners, managers and employees to high-class digital training that is easily afforded in a multi-site setting.
  3. Increase the number of women and men able to design, develop and deploy digital solutions in the manufacturing industry.

Reboot Skills is co-funded by the European Union under GA 101100696.
