We are delighted to share that UL Library received a Highly Commended Award at the  in Birmingham last week. This is a prestigious award that celebrates excellence in library space planning and design, last awarded in 2019.

SCONUL (the Society of College, National and University Libraries in the UK and Ireland) represents close to 200 university libraries. The SCONUL Library Design Awards aim to showcase and celebrate the very best in recent UK and Ireland academic library design. They offer a unique opportunity to recognise high impact, innovative library design which delivers effective and accessible learning environments for our academic communities.

The judging panel who visited UL Library in June noted in particular the library's transformative digital innovations – The Edge’s technology-enhanced learning spaces, the Digital Makerspace and the Automated Storage and Retrieval System - and the library’s strong sense of service, continuously finding ways to improve stakeholders’ experiences.

The Highly Commended Award is recognition th¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ Library stands out internationally as an exemplar of a 21st-century library building.

Library Director, Ciara McCaffrey, would like to warmly acknowledge the library team, the former Library Director, Gobnait O’Riordan, and the Buildings & Estates team, who have all played a huge part in UL Library’s success.
