As part of UL Research Week in April, we were honoured to welcome back Professor , originally from Limerick and now based at Duke University, as a keynote speaker at our LDCRC Breast Cancer Research event.
In this powerful video, Prof. McDonnell shares his journey from his early research days at the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ (previously known as NIHE) to leading cancer biology research in the U.S., emphasising the critical role of basic science in discovering and developing future cancer treatments and cures.
🔬 “95% of all drugs used in Europe and the U.S. had their origins in basic research laboratories.â€
💡 “We need to show young investigators just how rewarding a career in science can be.â€
🎯 “We want to move the conversation from treatment to cure.â€
His message is clear: investing in research changes lives, and it starts at the bench.
