TITLE: An Insider鈥檚 Look at Academic Publishing: Beyond Submission Guidelines
SPEAKER: Dr Victoria Corless (Taylor & Francis Publishing)
VENUE: To be confirmed (in-person event)
REGISTRATION:
Publishing is the lifeblood of an academic career, yet the process often feels like a "black box" of invisible hurdles and subjective feedback. While technical rigour is essential, successfully moving from manuscript to published record requires a broader skill set: strategic framing, psychological resilience, and ethical foresight.
This seminar moves beyond standard submission checklists to examine the real-world dynamics of the scholarly publishing ecosystem. Topics include:
- Winning the Desk Review: Moving beyond "fit" to articulate a contribution that is immediately clear and compelling to editors.
- Navigating Peer Review: Interpreting professional feedback, separating tone from task, and revising without losing your voice.
- Artificial Intelligence in Academia: Using large language models responsibly for drafting and discovery while maintaining non-negotiable standards of integrity and originality.
- Getting Your Research Noticed: Building a digital scholarly presence and ensuring research reaches its intended audiences in a crowded global landscape.
The session offers an extensive discussion of common challenges and practical strategies in academic publishing, equipping researchers with tools to manage their scholarly output with confidence and professional judgment.
