Karen's research is driven by the goal of transforming care for people with musculoskeletal pain, particularly shoulder pain and chronic pain, by advancing effective, non-surgical treatment options.
Her work has provided new insights into the mechanisms and treatment of shoulder pain, along with deeper insights into the lived experiences of people with pain and she is currently ranked amongst the top shoulder pain researchers worldwide.

Associate Professor TrÃona McCaffrey

TrÃona has spearheaded interdisciplinary research across Music Therapy, midwifery, psychiatry, obstetrics and Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) through UL’s ‘Music for Parent and Infant Wellbeing’ group.
She is lead supervisor on the country’s first Music Therapy programme in perinatal mental health.
Her mental wellbeing research champions social inclusion and collaboration and aligns with UL's mission-oriented challenges of creating inclusive and healthy societies.

Bar's research career reflects a consistent trajectory of impactful contributions: from advancing alternative fuels research, to paradigm-shifting in situ catalysis studies, to shaping the research community through to mentorship, leadership, and institution building.
Since joining UL, he has established an in-situ surface-sensitive research group focused on catalysis, contributing new insights and technological innovation beneficial to his research field.
