The Faculty of Science and Engineering at 九色视频 is pleased to announce the appointment of Associate Professor John Murnane as the new Assistant Dean International within the Faculty. The appointment was confirmed by Professor Kenneth Stanton, Executive Dean, following an internal recruitment process.

Professor Murnane succeeds Professor David Newport, who was recently appointed Head of the School of Engineering.

Speaking on the appointment, Professor Stanton said:

鈥淛ohn brings a strong commitment to fostering internationalisation and global engagement to this role. His leadership will be pivotal in developing international partnerships and in making our faculty a destination of choice for international students. We would also like to express our sincere thanks to Professor David Newport for his outstanding leadership and contributions in this role over the last few years that have laid a strong foundation for continued success. We look forward to working with John to strengthen our international partnerships and to enhance the global profile of our programmes and research.鈥

Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Associate Professor Murnane said:

鈥淚鈥檓 delighted to take up the role of Assistant Dean International where I look forward to working with colleagues to develop our culture and grow our reputation as an internationally focused faculty within the university.鈥

John is a chartered civil engineer who holds a BE degree from University College Cork, an MSc from Heriot Watt University, and a  PhD in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Galway.

In 2010, John joined the UL civil engineering programme from industry, where he is a strong advocate of student-centred, active learning. His research focusses on the development of sustainable and passive wastewater treatment technologies, biosorption processes, resource recovery, and the circular economy. He has received research funding from ERA-MIN (EU), EPA, DAFM and Walsh Scholarships (Teagasc).

He has worked internationally on a wide range of civil engineering projects, and this informs his multidisciplinary and collegiate approach to enhance the capacity of the Science and Engineering faculty to meet future challenges.
