Graduates of the Product Design and Technology programme earned multiple awards and commendations for their final-year projects at the prestigious IDI Graduate Awards 2025.
The Institute of Designers in Ireland (IDI) annually celebrates the outstanding work of emerging designers as they begin their professional careers. This year, several UL graduates from the School of Architecture and Product Design were honoured for their innovative projects.
Among the award winners was Daniel Cunnie, whose design FreeFlow Urinary Tract Infection Test Sheet and Companion App earned the overall Design for Sustainability award. FreeFlow is a flushable, toilet-top UTI test sheet designed for accessibility and faster diagnosis, reflecting Daniel’s people-first approach to design.
Success continued in the Design for Health and Wellbeing category, where Isabelle Bentley Curran won the Medical Device Design award for Elithiya—an IUD inserter that uses balloon assistance to minimise pain and anxiety, offering a more supportive contraceptive experience.
Other graduates receiving commendations include:
Fiona Gleeson for Kora: Urban Biodiversity Oasis
Leah Shanahan for AMY – a multi-sensory pregnancy test
Jonah Phelan for Soul – a smart device that respects users’ attention and time
Congratulations to all graduates and faculty involved in this outstanding achievement.
