The Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD, has announced €34.5 million in funding to support 39 cutting-edge research projects.

Announcing the awards, Minister Lawless said:
“We are investing in cutting-edge, curiosity-driven research and empowering individual researchers to progress bold ideas that can lead to groundbreaking discoveries. These awards demonstrate our dedication to building a diverse and inclusive research community that delivers impact for our society and economy. I look forward to seeing the development and outputs of these projects over the coming years.”

Among the 39 awardees are the Department of Chemical Sciences’ Associate Professor Hugh Geaney and Associate Professor Bar Mosevitzky Lis.

Professor Geaney’s project, co-funded by SEAI, focuses on developing new materials for longer-lasting, more sustainable batteries as alternatives to current lithium-ion technologies. Professor Mosevitzky Lis aims to develop catalysts with improved noble-metal utilisation to reduce the cost of synthesising ammonia used in fertilisers and chemical production.

Together, these two projects represent approximately €2 million in funding for Chemical Sciences and the Bernal Institute at the ɫƵ.
