As of 22 October 2025, Ireland is officially a member of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research ().
CERN is Europe's leading body of nuclear research, and is home to the (LHC), notably used to confirm the existence of the particle in 2012.
Ireland's membership increases opportunities for research and industry collaboration with CERN, as Irish nationals may now apply for staff positions or graduate positions at CERN, and firms can bid for CERN contracts.
