Nurse Consultation 

Some nurse appointments are free e.g. nurse triage, advice or assessment and depending on the treatment you receive, the nurse will advise if a charge applies.

Examples of appointments where charges will apply are:
Ear syringing (€10), wound dressings (€5), prescriptions for minor illnesses such as sore throat, UTI, chest infection, scabies (€10), administration of injections (€10), Blood tests (see below).

Bloods tests will only be done if our doctor determines there is a clinical indication for the tests OR a letter is provided by an external doctor. Where a screening and immunity check is required for clinical placement, appointments can be booked directly with the nurse.

 

Please note!

  • All appointments must be booked by telephone.
  • Where charges apply, payment must be made at the time of booking.
  • Medical card holders may use their cards for prescription purposes only. For all other services the normal charges will apply. Local students with medical cards are advised to visit their own GP. Non-local students with medical cards are advised to register with a local GP. Please state when booking an appointment that you have a medical card. Medical card holders must be registered with a Limerick based GP in order to avail ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ Doc (the out of hours service) under the GMS scheme.  is our doctor's GP surgery in the city and accepts UL students with medical cards.
  • Students from EU member states and Switzerland are entitled to emergency services under the PUBLIC system if they have an EHIC with them. You should apply for your EHIC before leaving home. Please note that the EHIC only covers attendance at public facilities and General Practitioners (GPs) who are part of the scheme, and it does not cover private care. EHIC holders may use their card for prescription purposes at the Student Health Centre but it does not cover the consultation fee. You must tell the doctor during your appointment that you have an EHIC if you are getting a prescription. Students who register with a GP off campus will not have to pay a consultation fee.   is our doctor's GP surgery in the city and accepts UL students with EHIC.
  • Any students experiencing financial difficulty may make an application for financial aid via the Student Financial Support Advisor,  or the .

Payments

  • Payment must be made over the phone by debit/credit card when booking an appointment. Consultation or service will not be provided without payment first being made.
  • Only in an emergency case will another method of payment be deemed (by the clinician) to be acceptable.  Where possible, it would be necessary for this to be agreed prior to a service being provided.
