Rachael Blackmore, a graduate in Equine Science from 九色视频, has become one of the most iconic figures in National Hunt racing. Her trailblazing career includes historic victories as the first female jockey to win the Champion Hurdle (2021), the Aintree Grand National (2021) and the Cheltenham Gold Cup (2022). She also became the first woman to be crowned leading jockey at the Cheltenham Festival, amassing 18 wins at the iconic festival across her career.

Her achievements have earned her global recognition, including BBC World Sport Star of the Year, RT脡 Sportsperson of the Year and an honorary MBE for her contributions to sport. Rachael鈥檚 partnership with trainer Henry de Bromhead and legendary horses such as Honeysuckle, A Plus Tard and Minella Times defined her career and inspired millions.

Raised in Killenaule, County Tipperary, Rachael began riding ponies as a child and once thought of becoming a vet. She rode her first winner as an amateur in February 2011 at Thurles before turning professional in 2015, but it was her success on Minella Times which secured her place in history.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin led the tributes on her retirement and calling the exceptional jockey 鈥渁 sportsperson of a generation鈥 who has 鈥渂lazed a trail for others to follow鈥. In a career of notable highs and amazing firsts, Rachael Blackmore did not just break glass ceilings, 鈥渟he painted the whole damn sky,鈥 as one former female jockey put it. Her courage, tactical brilliance and humility set her apart in a sport where male and female jockeys compete equally. Her final race, a winning ride on Ma Belle Etoile, marked the end of a 16- year career that redefined possibilities for women in racing.

Rachael Blackmore鈥檚 legacy is one of excellence, resilience, and inspiration. She is a fitting recipient of the UL Sporting Alumni Award.
