In Sunday's episode of RTÉ's the History Show, Dr Catherine Porter (UL Geography) and Dr Aengus Finnegan (UL Irish), along with other expert guests, joined Myles Dungan in a special episode dedicated to the first Ordnance Survey of Ireland. Dr Finnegan covered the work of the OS, such as John O’Donovan, in discerning and recording place names across Ireland. Dr Porter focused on the current Heritage Council funded project, ‘Locating Bench Marks, Preserving Heritage’ which aims to make County Limerick the first jurisdiction in these islands to record the current situation of every known OS bench mark and build a case for their protection. The project website can be accessed here: . Dr Porter is also a Project Investigator on 'OS200', a Research Ireland and Arts and Humanities Research Council co-funded Ordnance Survey project, with Dr Finnegan as Co-Investigator.
