In a 5 January 2026 Dr Karol Mullaney‑Dignam, Associate Professor of History, examined how generations of Irish people relied on close observation of the natural world to anticipate weather patterns long before modern meteorology, highlighting this knowledge as practical, experience‑based, and deeply embedded in cultural heritage.
The piece also featured in the Irish Examiner on 6 January, was on 27 January, and was picked up by RTÉ News for their feature panel on the same day. Karol has since discussed this research on radio in Ireland and the UK. In January, she appeared on alongside Met Éireann meteorologist Mary Curley.
More recently, she was interviewed for 'Countryside Matters', a UK‑based radio programme , with the on 2 February, and on 6 February.
