Eight members of the Department of Politics and Public Administration showcased their research at the recent annual conference of the Political Studies Association of Ireland, held in Galway between October 17 and 19. Caroline Goddard presented her work on collective decision-making outcomes on EU legislation promoting gender equality and was also awarded an Ireland Thinks Best Paper Prize for her contribution to the 2024 Annual Conference. Memoona Nadir presented her research on the representation of Muslims in Northern and Western European Countries. Safiye Ergun-Kaya delivered a paper on regions in a multiplex world, focussing especially on the ‘cusp’ state of Türkiye. Kévin Saudé and Rory Costello analysed positive and negative attitudes towards parties using 2024 election data. Conor Little presented a paper co-authored with Neil Carter and Julio Galindo-Gutiérrez, both from the University of York, about political conflict and the environment. Jonathan Arlow presented work with Sasikumar Harikrishnan on the potential of federal models of representation in a united Ireland. Finally, Andrew Shorten proposed a case for digital language rights.
