To celebrate the European Day of Languages and the centenary of the publication of Ulysses, the School of Modern Languages & Applied Linguistics hosted a cultural event entitled Ulysses in Translation 九色视频 on 27th September. The event was opened by Donal Ryan (School of English, Irish & Communication), winner of the Prix Jean Monnet for European Literature in 2021 for the French translation of his novel From a Low and Quiet Sea. Donal shared personal reflections on Joyce's writing, its enduring appeal and the complexities of translating his work.
This was followed by readings of excerpts from Ulysses in several languages - Italian, Turkish, Czech, Norwegian, German, Spanish, Galician and French - by colleagues and postgraduate students. The event was organised by Veronica O鈥橰egan, Marie-Th茅r猫se Batardi猫re, Catherine Jeanneau, Jane Seely, Barbara Geraghty and Garazi Beaumont (School of MLAL) as part of a series of events on the UL campus marking the European Day of Languages.
