What is school placement?

School placement is a key part of all teacher education programmes at ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ. Students complete two placement cycles during their studies, in line with Teaching Council requirements. 

Second-year undergraduates and first-year Professional Master of Education (PME) students go on placement in the Spring Semester, while fourth-year undergraduates and second-year PME students complete placement in the Autumn Semester.

Who organises it?

Placements are organised by the School Placement Department in the Cooperative Education and Careers Division (CECD), working with the School of Education. The team matches students with schools and assigns tutors, while the School of Education looks after assessment and placement requirements. All placements are managed through the .


 

School placement process

  1. Mandatory Briefing (Week 3 – one year in advance)
    You must attend the School Placement Briefing in Week 3. Details on how to attend will be sent to you by email.
     
  2. Code of Practice (by Week 4)
    You must sign the Code of Practice before the School Placement Team can begin arranging your placement.
     
  3. Register on TUS (by the end of Week 4)
    You must register for School Placement on the TUS system by the end of Week 4.
     
  4. CV Upload (Week 5)
    You must upload your CV to TUS during Week 5.
     
  5. Placement Arrangements
    The School Placement Team works with partner schools to secure placements. Some schools may request a CV or an interview. Make sure you remain contactable throughout this process.
     
  6. Placement Confirmation (Week 13)
    Your confirmed placement will be released on TUS in Week 13. You must log in to view your assigned school and contact them in Week 14 to begin preparation. Two observation days will take place before the placement starts.
     
  7. Tutor Assignment
    Your tutor will be listed on TUS. You must contact your tutor before the placement begins.
     
  8. Placement Begins
    You begin your placement. If any issues arise, contact the School of Education (SOE) immediately.

Office Location: The offices of the Cooperative Education & Careers Division are located in Room E0007 and Room E0019, in the Main Building. Visitors should come to the University main reception.
