The European Centre for the Study of Hate (ECSH) is an interdisciplinary research hub committed to deepening our understanding of hate in all its manifestations. Our scholarly research which produces evidence-informed approaches designed to equip European and national bodies with evidence-based tools to prevent and combat hate. The ECSH draws together experts from academia, civil society, and state and international bodies who work across the continuum of hate to collaborate in addressing the challenges in understanding, combating, and preventing hate towards minorities across Europe.
The ECSH operates across multiple levels of orientation, with members working on interrelated topics - from individual prejudice (micro) to community impact (meso) to structural and legal contexts (macro). Through active research partnerships across the globe, ECSH seeks to embed robust research-policy-practice linkages and to center translational, interdisciplinary European scholarship on one of the most pressing issues facing Europe today.

The ECSH is proud to be affiliated to the INHS, and hosted its biennial conference in 2016.
The INHS aims to provide an accessible forum through which anyone can engage with the study of hate and hate crime in a manner which is both scholarly and accessible to all.
In 2025, the ECSH was granted membership to OCEAN.
OCEAN unite universities and research institutions from the Council of Europe麓s 46 member states around the shared goal of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
Co-Directors of the ECSH act as external advisors to the Coalition Against Hate Crime.
The Coalition Against Hate Crime Ireland is a civil society coalition whose Members represent groups commonly targeted by hate crimes, including minority ethnic groups, LGBTQI communities, disabled people, and others, as well as academics and researchers working to advance the aims and objectives of the Coalition.
